Autumn of Doubt.

Unusual for me, a triple collaboration. With Lee of Corking Crack Band and a Member of the Public.

Lee was discarding some lines that I thought were very cool and was ok with me doing this. I approached this as a writing exercise after hearing Sinead (Rohan not O’Connor)’s brilliant version of Dylan’s “To Ramona” which similarly has no chorus but the continual verses that flow like a river. Then, seeing Lee’s words which had a similar rhythm penned this. I added to and changed his lines around, then wrote a bridge to build up the song at the end.

And below is AMOTP’s version of this. Very Nick Cave…

You Asked.

You asked today, love

Why do you stay, love?

But no words can I summon for you

It’s the autumn of doubt

I was afraid of throughout

Do our summertime vows still ring true?

I might strive to hear

Your low unvoiced fear

And see our demise in your eyes

I might hope to never

Be so close forever

That you feel my love in goodbyes

I might speak of the bright

Invisible light

That sneaks from the lines on your face

I might see with an rose glasses

That although the time passes

You still glow with glamour and grace

I might make love endure me

Just to reassure me

But I can’t ever figure out why

I might never miss

The way that we kiss

When I jump to the time that we die

BR-

So what is real love and how is love real?

A lifetime of us,

But do you know how I feel?

And if we lived twice,

Would we learn how to heal?

Or would we just finally drown?

You asked today, love

Why do you stay, love?

But no words can I summon for you

It’s the autumn of doubt

I was afraid of throughout

Do our summertime vows still ring true?

“Rod there are some fantastic lines in here.

A very random idea for the last line to perhaps setup a situation and put imagery in peoples heads early on.”

“I like the space Rod’s lyric gives the listener to pick and mix a personal meaning. Though I appreciate that some prefer things to be a little more on the nose/concise.”

“There’s a lot of lines I really like in here. The glasses/passes rhyme is so lyrical I can almost hear the melody in my head. Ditto the repeated “You asked today, love/Why do you stay, love?” Overall I feel like I already have a very good picture of how this song might sound just from how the lyrics are laid “

“Soy la primera!!!! Antes de nada, I love this line @It’s the autumn of doubt”

“I think you’ve done a great job of reframing the original concept and making it your own.”

“This works great. Melodies fit everything nicely. It made me think of the Wild West and for some reason a guy on a motocycle lol. Throughly enjoyed it. Sounds like it should be in a movie somewhere. I actually have nothing to pick at. Congrats to all for a job well done!”

“Cool lyrics”

Another great collab, here. I personally love a slow brooding tune, especially one with some quality lyrics to chew on along the way. A bit of a departure for you musically, @Sedda, but I like it! As you can imagine, I certainly do not mind the sameness (given what I create). And I think you definitely nailed the vibe @Rod de Lisle was after with the songs he referenced. And we all know that having a little @CorkingCrackBand in any song simply makes it better. Congrats to all. I really enjoyed it.
