The second place getter in the Feb 2024 Muse Lyric competition.

A New Friend is so relatable and a very universal theme, also very well written…and clever.” – Joey.

A new friend: really enjoyed the story, loved the rewarding ending.” – Essa

“We get on the bus with its sticky smell”

A New Friend.

This ain’t no Sunday walk, she’s leading me

Destination a mystery

There’s someone I want you to meet

Ok, but aren’t you gonna tell me?

PC

Here comes that slippery slide.

What is this meeting that she has conspired?

She has a twinkle in her eye

But she won’t tell me why

CH

We have a day-full of hours and some seconds to spend

Come with me and meet a new friend

It’s a good day, to greet a new friend

Babe,

you’ll remember this day

She steers us down to the bus exchange

And buys two tickets to the beach

I get two colas from the coke machine

And hold them up just out of her reach

C’mon who is it, why don’t you tell?

I rack my brain then try to rack hers

We get on the bus, with its sticky smell

She says it’s nothing bad, It could be worse

CH

We sit on the shore by the boardwalk

I see she’s too excited to talk

She shows me a blurry black and white

There’s no detail, I don’t see the light

So it doesn’t click at first

And she’s got a poker face

Then she places my hand on her belly

and it all falls into place

It falls right into place

CH

OUTRO

I’m gonna love him

Or is it a her?

I’m gonna remember this day.
