Boss on Stage

A homage to Bruce. I wrote it after winning two tickets to a local Springsteen covers band. Aldo Sedevcich (A Member of the Public) set it to music and we did a wee vid. See it here

——

Dirty downtown drums its ode to the city

Shaking off the rigours of the night

I look through my ice-paned, smoke-stained windows,

The streets are just long streaks of red and white

The factory gates

Were finally locked down

I never heeded my daddy’s warning

I drink coffee in bed, try to clear my head

And smoke away the rest of the morning

I got no gas in my tank and no work today

I  got a guy at the door with bills I can’t pay

But I got two tickets in my jacket

And I don’t care

My girl, Maree don’t know that I just spent all her wage

Cos tonight is the night

Tonight is the night

And the Boss is on stage

So we gonna steal a car and hit the tar

Turn the radio up loud and turn off the lights

Near the factory zone don’t give it away

With the Boss on stage

it’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok, ok

In the black of the dark

one spotlight in play

It’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok

It’s the Boss’s way.

It’s gonna be ok.

Maree has to see him, like we always do

We are busted broke but our hearts are on fire

We dump the car down by O’Malley’s bar

And follow the crowds to the stadium wire.

This ain’t no walk to dying, if you know what I mean

We weren’t born to run either, Maree tells me

We don’t ride around in black limousines

The shoes on my feet are all I own

Maree don’t care that I just spent all her wage

Cos tonight is the night

Tonight is the night

And the Boss is on stage

And when he’s on stage it’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok, ok

In the black of the dark

one spotlight in play

It’s the Boss’s way.

It’s gonna be ok.

It’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok

It’s gonna be ok.
