I’m quite happy with this effort. It reflects the great times we’ve had in the Cook Islands. It needs some decent music to go with it, perhaps with a ukulele solo 😉)
Here’s my attempt with the help of AI, whaddathink?
The beat of Rarotonga
a fire and clear star sky.
I whispered Kia Orana to the sea
And dreamt a lullaby
–
The sun and Rarotonga
conspired to make me new
But waves and reef
and sand and sun
Were nothing without you
–
I don’t feel alive here in the city
I really don’t know why
I’m just a nameless number
With a short term alibi
But when I’m in Rarotonga
I am the land, the sea, the sky
I wanted to stay there forever
Although I knew I had to fly
But when I’m in Rarotonga
I am the land, the sea, the sky
–
When I found a lucky slice of life
In the Pacific southern sun
My eyes had seen half a hundred years
But my heart was twenty one
–
A long flight to Rarotonga
A nervous late depart
But this time I’m fine
Cos I’m with you
My Island girl sweetheart.
–
I don’t feel alive here in the city
I really don’t know why
I’m just a nameless number
With a short term alibi
But when I’m in Rarotonga
I am the land, the sea, the sky
I want to stay here forever
Although I know we have to fly
But when I’m in Rarotonga
I am the land, the sea, the sky
–
(Bridge)
What if all those stars went out
In the night sky when we kissed
Could we turn those stars back on
In a moment just like this?
When we leave here tomorrow
We will feel a leaving pain
The sun will light
our outward flight
Stars will bring us back again
–
I don’t feel alive here in the city
I really don’t know why
I’m just a nameless number
With a short term alibi
But when I’m in Rarotonga
I am the land, the sea, the sky
I want to stay here forever
Although I know we have to fly
But when I’m in Rarotonga
I am the land, the sea, the sky
